Hey there
The new whitetail deer proposal got me all excited this morning UNTIL i read up on it. These changes have nothing to do with the WMU i am currently in (46) or surrounding WMU’s. I have been hunting avidly since 2013 and have landed myself in the 46 area. I love it here. And love living here. I hunt to provide for myself, my other half and my family. Two things I think that should be taken into consideration with this new white tail management proposal:
1. Allow people in certain WMU’s to get a coyote/wolf tag with their deer tag. the number of dogs despite having licenced trappers in the area have become numerous as years roll on. The number of sightings both in person and on trail cameras is astounding. Or, if people apply to the antlerless tag allocation and are successful, allow those who are buck only to get an addition single coyote/wolf tag with their buck tag. Just a thought.
2. EXTEND the bow season in WMU 46 and surrounding (47,49 maybe) to december 31. Our season currently closes december 15, why can we not have the opportunities like those of southern ontario hunters and be able to harvest until the end of december? Sure, my buck tag is good anywhere in ontario provided the season is open, but i much like a lot of other hunters do not have access to southern land to be able to hunt whitetails. Nor the finances to travel great distances. And with covid, it’s difficult to find places to stay. I hunt close to home and i believe it would be of great benefit to allow our season to get extended like our friends in the south. Until the season gets extended, I will keep busting my rear to fill my tag and try to put some meat in the freezer.
That’s all my opinions for this early saturday morning. I hope everybody is keeping safe and well.
