I think this is a horrible idea, you as conservationists and environmentalists should know that the majority of the hunters who pursue whitetails do so with a rifle. Yes you are equaling out the available days to hunt but by doing so with rifles only leaves the animal with a less chance of survival. Numbers where I hunt in 83 A are low as it is (the anterless draw success rate shows) this and giving locals and city people more days and chances to shoot deer at 250 plus yards will not help numbers. Leave it as it is or better yet lower the anterless tags in wmu where deer herds are low. Reports do not dictate this enough because people lie in order to get more anterless tags distributed in their wmu. Youth need to see deer while they are out in order to stay committed and enjoy themselves. So focus on that instead giving trigger happy hunters more reason to say "if its brown its down"
Nothing teaches new hunters the art of hunting more then patients and waiting for the right deer to show up. Alot easier to do while they are seeing deer then going a whole week without seeing anything. Down southern ontario way different scenerio. So no one way to fix it all.
