Absolutely ridiculous to expand the season in wmu 45. Ask any hunter that’s been hunting St Joseph Island for the last 30 years and they will tell you that the numbers have steadily declined year over year since the peak in the mid 90’s. We used to see 10-15 deer per day back then, now if you see 5 in a week your lucky. If anything you should be removing the weekend days you previously added. You have also failed to appropriately adjust the number of Doe tags given out each year. There should be a pause on Doe tags for 2-3 years, and then cut in half when you bring them back. Seriously, who is making these decisions? Obviously not a hunter or anyone that cares about the current or future health of the deer herd on the island. Your main focus is supposed to be on the health and welfare of the animals, not how many weekends Joe Blow city boy gets to go hunting. These new proposed rules will completely destroy what’s left of an ailing deer population. For once, do the right thing and listen to the people that actually live and hunt the Island and actually give a crap about the animals we share it with.
