The cancellation of cap and trade for Ontario is not only a bad decision for the environment, but also for the Ontario economy. In order to prevent the worst impacts of catastrophic climate change- of which we are already seeing in Ontario (droughts, intense heat waves, lyme disease) we need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and cap-and-trade is an effective way for high-level emitters to reduce their emissions. Furthermore, Ontario has already and will continue to lose money from the cancellation of cap-and-trade as well as losing important connections with large businesses in the province.
