I am STRONGLY OPPOSED to Proposal #2 - including bow hunting during the controlled hunts. The controlled hunts are "Controlled Hunter Numbers" with limits on the number of hunters allowed in the field during these seasons. These hunts are very well subscribed and any Bow hunter that applies for one of these validations will potentially be displacing a gun hunter.
There are several effects this would produce. First it contradicts one of the stated objectives of the proposal of increasing hunting opportunities. It would result in a reduced harvest as indicated by MNRF harvest success ratio statistics between bow and gun hunters thus upsetting herd population managment objectives. It would increase competition for a limited amount of public land since bow hunters tend to hunt individually while gun hunters often hunt as a party, this would in effect be a reduction in hunting opportunities.
