I strongly disagree with the government's decision to remove the cap and trade program. The world is moving in the direction of sustainable development and creating a market in which the externalities of carbon emission can be captured is essential to staying at the forefront of change. This change is going to happen whether we want it to or not, so why not position Ontario to be a leader, and not a follower on this matter? Even if there is the argument to be made that it will make our province less competitive in the short run, in the long run having a cap a trade system will make us more competitive. Businesses loath uncertainty, and having a well established carbon market that has been in place for years and proven to be reliable would be hugely beneficial in attracting business in the years to come.
Don't be short sighted. Be ahead of the curve.
