Hello, as a resident of Ontario and someone who works in the forestry sector, I would like to mention the following issues I have with this proposal.
- The proposal speaks to the 65/35 federal disturbance threshold. This curtails the amount of area that can be put in a forest management plan and ignores the age of the forests that are there.
- There is no explicit commitment to report on the socio-economic impacts
- There is limited recognition of climate change impacts on Caribou
- The proposal promotes protected areas, with emphasis on regulated areas (more parks) as opposed to OECM’s (Other Effective Conservation Measures like Caribou DCHS)
