Thank you for allowing the opportunity to comment on the Caribou Section 11 Agreement. I am from Northwestern Ontario and have been employed as a forester in the forest industry for 40 years.
The industry provides jobs, good income and benefits to many people in our area. It sustains many families.
I am proud of the way the forests in our region are managed in a sustainable way. When a person goes out into our forests, they can see new regenerating forests replacing areas that have been harvested.
I am a supporter of Forest Management Plans that support and sustain; forests, wildlife, fisheries, watersheds, recreational opportunities and vital important jobs in the Forest Industry.
Therefore, when developing a Caribou Conservation Agreement for Ontario, I firmly believe that maintaining a sustainable and viable forest industry is vitally important for the communities in our region.
The Forest Industry has a proven track record of developing Forest Management Plans with the objective of sustaining all forest values, while maintaining jobs.
Therefore, I feel this gives the forest industry and the professionals who work in it, credibility in helping manage our forests. As a result, priority should be given to sustaining a viable Forest Industry while managing for Caribou Conservation.
Thank you,
John
