I write to comment on the posting of ERO 019-5203. A pause in the excess fill regulation is wholly unacceptable and i hereby register my opposition to said pause proposal. The proposed pause would aid and abet the lying criminal filth who are stonewalling implementation of the excess fill regulation. It constitutes a slap in the face to those businesses that operate with moral integrity and have made considerable efforts to comply. Moreover, it is not in the best interest of Ontario residents.
As a private citizen whose property borders a clandestine excess fill dump site, I am deeply concerned about groundwater contamination (e.g. of my well) and surface water contamination (of the surrounding environment). We have waited long enough for this legislation. It was enacted for a reason. To pause it post implementation could be viewed as criminally negligent at best.
Government is supposed to work for the people, not a minority of irresponsible operators who otherwise denigrate their entire industrial sector. Please, do not pause the excess soil regulation. To do so would put Ontario on the same moral footing as undemocratic oligarchies that disparage their own people and environment for the selfish gain of a select few corrupt individuals. We can and must do better. As a resident of Ontario I strongly oppose pausing the excess soil regulation.
