I am extremely concerned that this second ERO Proposal no longer includes the Paris Galt Moraine for inclusion in the expanded Greenbelt area. The initial ERO 019-3136 referred to the Moraine as a priority/initial focus area, "a study area of lands focused on the Paris Galt Moraine which is home to CRITICAL groundwater resources." The Summary of Comments for the initial ERO focuses on concerns of municipalities and other stakeholders (timing), as well as those of the aggregate industry. However, many of the submissions (including mine) supported the inclusion of the Paris Galt Moraine in both the study area and as part of the expansion of the Greenbelt area and Plan. What consideration was given to those comments and recommendations? At this time, the public is looking for further explanation from the Ministry and a commitment that future and further consideration will be given to both the protection of the Paris Galt Moraine and an acknowledgement of the CRITICAL functions of this "natural capital." Is Ontario 'Yours to Protect" or is Ontario "Open for Business?"
Let's protect our CRITICAL groundwater resources. At this time, I support the inclusion of additional river valleys into the Plan Area. However, I believe it is absolutely critical to protect these "backbones" of Ontario including these Horseshoe Moraines, their features and their functions.
