I am disappointed that the provincial government is planning to cancel Greenbelt expansion plans for the Paris-Galt Moraine and instead pursue a tiny expansion of some already protected creeks in the GTA through Urban River Valley’s (URV’s). We must do better to protect and expand our green spaces!

HOPA Ports recommends that the Urban River Valley in the area of the Oshawa Harbour Marina Lands and East Wharf be revised to reflect the City of Oshawa Council-endorsed boundaries as identified in City of Oshawa Agenda Item DS-21-72.

The proposed approach to considering the addition of new lands into the greenbelt is reasonable over all, and the additional of new lands including the 13 new urban river valleys is welcomed. However, there is one thing that should be reconsidered - the exclusion of private lands.

Much, much, much, much more needs to be added to the Greenbelt than this. Very little of value is here and most of these spaces are already protected. This is a very sad overture at expanding the Greenbelt.

I support the inclusion of the named Urban River Valleys, but your proposal fall short of what is needed.
* All URV lands, not just publicly owned lands, should be designated. The point of Greenbelt designation is to protect ecosystems from destructive development.

This plan is insufficient. The exclusion from consideration of the Paris Galt Moraine undermines the most important part of this attempt to grow the greenbelt.

We are disappointed that the government is not considering expanding the Ontario Greenbelt into Brant County. We recommend that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing go further to protect the proposed “Bluebelt” (see attached map).
