One of the things that would enhance middle housing is to allow basement apartments or suites, or even loft conversions ---- for extended family or for rental units, without allowing any Air B&B rentals.
Conversion of empty commercial spaces or many empty churches or synagogues of places of worship as membership declines. Reuse of materials by craftsmen, indeed adaptive re-use of any older buildings is preferable to high rise expensive condos.
Continue to infill with smaller residences, duplexes etc.
