I believe that it will be a mistake cancel the cap and trade system that has been in place, without implementing something else that is more effective. For this reason, I believe a longer consultation period should be used in order to get feedback from the public, businesses, and other related parties to determine what is the best way to have an impact on CO2. According to a recent report from the Ontario environmental watchdog, environmental commissioner Dianne Saxe, said "“Dismantling a climate change law that was working is bad for our environment, bad for our health and bad for business."
Please reconsider this action of cancelling the cap and trade, especially without having a new program in place to replace it. You could review the current system and find where it was truly efficient and keep these pieces and remove those that the environmental commissioner believes needs to be changed or removed.
It is a more complex program that I don't believe was properly explained and this could be leading to the confusion around it and carbon tax, these are things that will benefit the province of Ontario and Canada as a whole in the long term. Please do not just focus on the short term.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
