As a concerned Member of the home building community, we urge the province to seriously remove all uncertainty and obstacles in order to facilitate the much needed expansion of the development and construction of new homes in the province. Specifically reference the points below.

1.Niagara needs more housing, NOW. Housing must be a priority in the plan – prioritized in settlement areas.
2.Natural Heritage – the Region has gone well beyond the Provincial requirements in creating new environmental features. Require the Region to use the Provincial mapping only.
3.Flexibility in implementation – as projects move from a Regional scale Official Plan to implementation through development, refinement of environmental features and buffers must be permitted through the development process.
4.Don’t let process impede progress. There must be appropriate processes designed to allow for new housing. The requirements for Secondary Plans and Sub Watershed Plans must be more flexible. Most municipalities haven’t even budgeted for Secondary Plans and Subwatershed Plans, let alone started them.
