I am supportive of more housing in Ontario, however, limiting the number (percent) of affordable housing units per development is ridiculous. Ontarian's need affordable housing more than ever- having new houses is great but most people can't afford to buy a house that is $700,000! We should be increasing the number of affordable units per development, not decreasing or limiting it. Additionally, 80% of the market value is hardly affordable when the average monthly rent in most cities is $1,500-$2,500 for a one bedroom apartment. Our wages haven't increased by 30% but the cost to rent an apartment has (30% in one year, mind you). Saving 20% is not going to make it affordable.
If the government is serious about putting Ontarian's into housing, they need to stop helping the developers make the most money for the least actual benefit.
