Cottage lots have been in existence since 1894. For several decades these lease holders have been granted only limited, timed leases. A long-term solution was proposed by Chatham-Kent to the province of Ontario. A very good deal, in the eyes of the cottagers, municipality and the Minister but nothing has happened.
Now a 2-year extension is proposed. Why isn't the long-term deal considered?
Cottagers are essentially the caretakers of the park. Flora and fauna are flourishing, the water in and around the park is in great shape and there are more protected species here than anywhere else in the province.
The cottagers should be allowed to stay. Their leases should be long term, and the best-case scenario is the one proposed by CK in 2021
Let the cottagers stay in the park!
