Your announcement that you and your government are opening up 7400 acres of protected Greenbelt land is beyond distressing to me, and my family. You and your government broke a promise that helped you win an election. Adding 9400 acres to the Greenbelt is disingenuous as much of it is already protected. You are removing most of the protective powers of the Conservation Authorities literally paving the way for developers, many of whom are friends of your government. It’s shameful.
There are innovative ways to create housing while protecting the natural environment that we all depend on for our survival. In and of itself the natural world is worthy of protection. You and this government lack the “out of the box” thinking to do things better and differently. I fear for our children. Parks and natural spaces should not be negotiable.
Bill 23 is wrong. It will not create housing that most can afford - I live and work where these new developments are going in. $800,000 for a townhouse is not affordable. I cannot say how disappointed I am in this government. I had hope. I trusted and depended upon your integrity. We were lied to. Please keep your promise to the people and protect the Greenbelt. Do not put I’ll 23 through.
