I firmly believe that the cancellation of the Cap & Trade Act is a step in the wrong direction.
Canada, especially Ontario, has the opportunity to become a leader in climate change prevention.
Internally, Ontario's Cap & Trade program enabled a healthier environment, promoted energy efficiency, and saved a lot of money in energy costs.

Surely, canceling this act can save some money for families temporarily and reduce gas prices temporarily. However, it is obvious that there are repercussions to this in the long-term future. Budgeting a temporary fix to gas prices and saving a handful of money seems like a "good move" at the moment, and looks good for the government, but we all know that this facade will fade and we will face greater consequences later (both in the environment and in the economy).

Trying to outclass global businesses that are currently far out of reach (producing much more at a cheaper labour cost) seems like an irrational move - we do not need to sacrifice our environment and global leadership in green initiatives for a small temporary push forward.

On top of this, from a business perspective, there is no compensation for businesses that have invested in the Cap & Trade initiative - what will you do about this?

There needs to be recuperation for the cancellation of the act.
Thank you.
