My company operates light duty trucks that tow small box trailers. Ontario rules allow a truck and trailer to be weighed separately if the truck GVW is less than 4,500 kg and the trailer GVW is less than 2,800 kg. Under that rule, we retain the designations of light duty truck. Unfortunately, some other jurisdictions in Canada require that all truck-trailer combinations be weighed as a unit, which puts us over the 4,500 kg limit for the truck. We are still below the combined 7,300 kg limit for a truck-trailer combination. But since we do travel to other jurisdictions, we need to register the trucks for more than 4,500 kg, thus moving us into a heavy-duty truck designation. We have asked that this issue be addressed in interprovincial trade rules now being discussed.

If we could register our trucks and trailers separately for maximum registered GVW, I think that would solve our problem. I urge you to consider that change in amending the regulation.
