While I am in agreement that we need to build more homes, and expedite this process, I oppose the government's plan to utilize the green belt for this purpose.
I own a business that relies on home building, and we would benefit from this proposal. However, it is short sighted to go ahead with it.
The GTA is in desperate need of bylaw amendments that will allow more multi family re-development on sites that have long been restricted to single family homes. Continued sprawl and infringement on wetlands and protected spaces is not the answer.
Invest in infrastructure (high speed rapid rail) so that communities like Brighton, Cobourg, Peterborough, Lindsay, etc. remain as desirable alternatives with short commutes to the GTA.
