The proposal to build over our greenbelt is absolutely unacceptable. We all understand there is a housing crisis in Ontario, but we are also facing a far more serious life- and sustainability-threatening crisis related to climate warming and destruction of the environment that we rely on for our habitat. (Fun fact: without a livable habitat, we have no need of houses, or jobs, or executive bonuses.) While these lands, in their present state, make no developers, CEOs, politicians, or investors richer, they nevertheless play a critical role in our survival. There are multiple groups proposing solutions that take advantage of land that has already been compromised by building, and that focus on high and middle-density population with close proximity to amenities and resources that replace a reliance on cars. This is so obvious - why is our government ignoring it? Why are our elected officials walking back on their "unequivocal" promises to leave the greenbelt alone and seek solutions that won't cause more destruction of our habitat and environment? We demand that our government consider the future our children will inherit. We will never be able to go back once our greenspace is paved.
