I think expanding into the greenbelt is a bad idea because, the fundamental issue of why our country is losing out in terms of being competitive is were not building our downtowns and making better use of the land space. With more suburbs the people are forced to rely on cars which in turn make the cost of living higher and it's bad for the environment overall.

Why not reinvest and build up and more efficiently rather than wide off? There would be less infrastructure being spread out at well. We live in a car dependent society and that was good for the 1950s but it's not the 1950s anymore and studies have shown that municipalities can barely pay to maintain the once "advanced" infrastructure that suburbs offer
