Working at a Dealership, I find more and more cars to be more fuel efficient and environmentaly friendly. Most vehicles are going turbo charged which reduces numerous emissions oppsoed to older vehicles, and computer management system have developed to help idle emissions with auto stop/start features. Let’s face it most of the older generation vehicle are slowly becoming extinct as newer and cleaner cars are being transitioned over. Myself as a drive clean inspector find fewer cars are failing over the years as technology and computer management systems have reduced emissions drastically. Sure emissions are big factor but light duty vehicle are probably the least emission emitting item compared to factorys, heavy duty vechiles and manchinery. In order to renew a sticker we need to wait in line at the ministry for long period of time and getting that emissions test at times can take hours, losing almost half a day of work and cost isnt sufficient enough for most households to handle. Sticker Renewals have gone up drastically in cost overcthe years, by cutting down on emission testing for light duty vehicles can save thousands in tax payer dollars possibly reducing sticker re newal prices for alot of needed households. Lets face it the system helped back then but with todays day and age, technology has evovled and has most definitly changed how much vehicle emissions are emitting. Overall i would say scrap the program and putcthe money somewhere elsexthat will benefit us as a province.
