I've lived across Ontario in my life, from cities to rural areas, and have watched farmland and green space disappear more and more with every passing year. The barn I used to work at is now a suburb, my hometown is now being imposed on by looking development. My friends are struggling to stay close to work in the city, and those moving further outside the GTA are priced out with palatial homes and single family zoning.

I can not stress enough how absolutely asinine it is for this government to not only go back on their word but to go back so aggressively in taking away part of the green belt. As other commenters have pointed out, we need to be focusing on changing zoning to allow for mixed residential, multi family homes, and other forms of residential property both in and out of our cities. Taking space from the greenbelt for more cookie cutter, poorly made, developer homes that will still barely be affordable is not the solution for anyone but the developers. This is not the fix, and only forces people further afield while removing valuable green space that we need more of - not less.

This is a short sighted Band-Aid solution.
