I was dumbfounded to hear of this proposal, not only because it’s unnecessary and environmentally disastrous, but recent public comments to blame immigrants is beyond offensive. My initial reaction involved words I would not want to repeat if my goal is to retain a certain sense of decency and objectivity.

To phrase more politely, our family is vehemently opposed to the development of the Greenbelt. I would expect an effective government to only pursue development opportunities that have long term sustainable positive environmental and socio-economic impacts. Pursuing this adverse change to the Greenbelt is incredibly short sighted, and not aligned with the values and hopes for current and future generations of Ontarians. I implore Doug Ford and his Conversative party, who may currently hold majority power due to our electoral system being based on long outdated legislative structures which result in suboptimal decision making not in best interests of majority of residents of Ontario, to please reconsider and not pursue this development avenue. There are many other options for adding additional housing that will not have such long term dire environmental consequences. I would suggest you rely on expert scientific and socio-economic opinions rather than ridiculous political posturing to monetarily reward a small group, destroy natural environments and create a very limited amount of housing stock with very questionable benefit.
