The Ministry must establish a firm date for cottage owners at Rondeau Provincial Park to vacate the park. These "extensions" have gone on far too long. The Ontario Government should not be in the business of appeasing or supporting a small but highly motivated special interest group at the expense of the real owners of the Park, namely; all Ontario residents. This has been a policy of elitism and this political can has been kicked down the road far too long. The Municipality even had the temerity to propose buying the lots under review with the express purpose of selling them back to the Rondeau cottage owners. This is porkbarelling at its worst, and it invites legal challenges and class action lawsuits. It would be refreshing if the Ontario Ministry was resolute and did the right thing. The cottage owners knew that their leases had termination dates and the Government has historically amended these leases to avoid conflict with a small but highly politicized special interest group in the form of the Rondeau Park Cottage Owners Association. If the Government of Canada had replicated a similar policy with Point Pelee, we wouldn't have an environmentally protected national park there as it is today (sans cottage owners). Please act in the best interests of the people and the environment.
