I am shocked at, and very much opposed to, Premier Ford's plan to allow developments in the Greenbelt. As a retired community planner and former employee of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, I think this is foolhardy and highly unlikely to achieve anything in resolving our housing crisis. It would be far more effective to give stimulus for more low rise multi-housing proposals in existing communities and to make use of vacant lands within urban centres. This piece-meal erosion of the Greenbelt is the thin edge of the wedge to eventually decimate the Greenbelt, not to mention the potential detrimental effect on surrounding farm land in the GTA which is becoming precious in supply.

If it in fact does anything to resolve the housing crisis, it is but short term gain at great long term cost to our future generations and but further evidence of Mr Ford's knee jerk reactions and exercise of "power" in the absence of any regard for our stewardship of the land (not to mention a failure to uphold his previous commitment not to intrude on the Greenbelt).
