This proposal is not the best option for Ontarians. It is lining the pockets of Ford’s wealthy friends and corporations.

In a time of rapidly changing weather patterns, disrupting the complex ecosystems within and around the green belt are going to make things worse overall. I strongly suggest utilizing areas around the GTA that are sitting empty or are underused to create more housing, rather than going into protected areas. They are protected for a reason.

We need to think further down the line about how this development will impact younger generations and the many, many people who need safe, secure, accessible, and affordable housing. Not just rich people. If the actual people who keep the economy going aren’t housed, who will provide all the services the Ford and his cohort rely upon?

These lands are for everyone. They must be kept as is, and expanded upon.

Further, I would like the Treaties to be honoured, specifically in how they relate to land usage and development. This development project doesn’t strike me a respecting Treaties, nor the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 recommendations.

Upholding these legal documents protects the land and water for all people, though most significantly the Original peoples of this territory, their cultures, traditions, life ways - which are inherently conservationist by nature. Ford has enacted policies over and over that sidestep responsibility for upholding Canada’s and Ontario’s own legal system, and in doing so, perpetuate anti-Indigenous practices.

Pushing through this development is a cultural, environmental, humanitarian disaster. I do not support it and urge everyone who has the power to shut it down to do so for the benefit of all people, plants, animals, water systems, and all future generations.

Thank you
