Hey here's an idea, how about we put nature before money for once and leave the greenbelt alone? I'm sure there's other places to build homes that doesn't involve destroying the homes of our plant and animal neighbours. In fact, the places where we need more homes are within existing cities where there are already services for residents. We all know what this proposal is really about, it has nothing to do with what Ontarians want or need.
Also this will set a horrible precedent, how long until others think it's ok to dip into the greenbelt too? "It's fine because we're adding a new section too" - no! We can't sprawl forever.
Don't we want our children to be able to breathe clean air, see some creatures and eat local food? Don't we want them to be able to live in the cities their families live in? Don't we want to save them from having to spend a week's salary to fill up their cars just to sit on already overcrowded highways for hours just to get anywhere? Don't we want to expose them to culture, not just bland, soulless sprawl?
How about developing some housing in the city centres? How about investing in restoring some abandoned, dilapidated housing? How about investing in better transit? And how about leaving the greenbelt alone?
Thanks.
