The greenbelt needs to stay intact. Allowing any part of it to be "repurposed" or blatantly destroyed will only open up a standard that more of it can be. This is a gateway to both ecoterrorism by way of deforestation, pollution, habitat destruction, and so much more. The very last thing we need is a highway and a bunch of hew houses developed on land that was designated to be a protected ecosystem. There are other options for more housing, such as repurposing buildings like empty office buildings to be low income housing units elsewhere - or actually imposing more rental/house cost control that prevents the mass cost crisis we're seeing in Ontario real estate today. New highways are not necessary; we've seen it proven again and again that population grows and moves to meet the space available, and opening another highway will only further pollute and destroy our environment. Instead, work to improve our public transit systems, expand their capacity and reach to service as many people as possible for the smallest carbon footprint possible. Please, we beg you, listen to the people. Open the floor up to university students, start a competition for creative and eco-friendly solutions to housing and transit issues. Do not dig us deeper into a hole we can't climb out of. This is not the only way; please, we can do better than this.
