I wholeheartedly disagree with this amendment.
With the pandemic we saw how tenuous global food supply chains can be. As a result of climate change, locations we currently get our food supply from may no longer be reliable. That said, we badly need to protect and conserve farmland and surrounding ecosystems for future generations.
Continuing urban sprawl is not the answer to the housing supply crisis. Densification and creating livable, walkable communities is a better solution.
I see no evidence that this amendment is for the good of anyone but developers. It is a land grab for short-term monetary gain that will have lasting detrimental effects down the road and sets the precedent that greenbelt lands are up for grabs.
