I am opposed to the proposed amendments to open up areas of the greenbelt for development.
While Ontario does need more housing, this needs to be done through densification and not through building on environmentally sensitive lands; Lands that can not be easily replaced. The greenbelt was created for a reason and I have seen no credible explanation for why a given area in the existing greenbelt is no longer required to fulfill that purpose. I am also concerned about the precedent being set that sacrificing existing protections to provide a short-term easy solution to a hard problem is the correct course of action. All that does is further weaken protections that are in place to ensure the preservation of unique and threatened resources.
