Green belt is precisely that. It represents an area usually of forestation or lands above an aquifer such as much of York Region. This land was set aside by previous governments never to be built on as any intrusion by development of any kind can be catastrophic to flora and fauna to say nothing of ground water pollution in these areas. All levels of government must come to the realization that if we do not have the required room to build additional housing without encroachment on these lands then bringing 450,000 immigrants into the country is obviously not feasible and must be brought down to a level that is reasonable and sustainable. We currently have hundreds of thousands of both immigrants and Canadian citizens who do not have the required financial backing to purchase a home and until we solve that problem bringing more people into the country and attempting to house them on designated green space is almost a criminal act.
