The green belt is vital to our ecosystem and in this time of environmental emergency, we can not afford to lose these lands to developers.
Numerous reviews of the housing crisis have illuminated that this is not a issue lack of land issue, this is an issue of affordability and reallocation. I propose that we swiftly approve the backlog of requests for laneway home builds, reuse the thousands of empty office buildings for residential use and create tougher laws for short term rentals. Homes should not sit vacant waiting for the highest bidder - people need affordable housing now.
The ford government made a promise that they would not use green belt lands and once again, they have failed to keep their promise. I am tired of the government putting profits over people. We are in a climate emergency - do not use our protected lands for profit.
