You don’t have to touch the Greenbelt to provide more housing. What you need is better housing policies. You can always change housing policies within existing developments. They all don’t have to be condos either or detached homes. The more you sprawl, the more you contribute to highway traffic, then you have to make new infrastructure again to move people from new developments to where they work (which is most likely Toronto). Allow homeowners within Toronto to expand their property to make more units within that property. There are public land within Toronto that can be turned to affordable housing. You don’t have to build more, you just have to build smarter. You just have to be more creative about it. Destroying the Greenbelt for this is, quite frankly, short-sighted and lazy thinking.
