In the midst of Ontario’s housing crisis this proposal does nothing but put money in the hands of land developers. Single family homes in areas with no infrastructure does nothing to support accessible low income housing, the real source of the housing crisis. Furthermore, destroying protected natural land only exacerbates the climate crisis which, as it worsens, will result in more displaced folks in need of housing. In order to support both the environment and the housing crisis, more vertical affordable housing buildings should be built on city land.
