Changes to the Greenbelt
I am opposed to the proposed changes to the greenbelt.
The greenbelt was developed to protect environmentally sensitive land, important watersheds, linked greenspace and forests that provide a multitude of benefit to humans as well as key habitat for declining migratory birds and wildlife corridors as well as prime agricultural land.
This land was to be protected forever and not chipped away at until it no longer exists.
The Ford government plan to also remove local Conservation Authorities and reduce their conservation powers in order to ram through plans to decimate greenspace is the plan of a dictator. Ontarians deserve better.
This is a short-sighted plan for the long term health and wellness of our province and future generations. Focus instead on developing housing within cities. Vacant warehousing/commercial/ industrial land exists and should be the priority for developing affordable housing.
