The green belt is one of the most important natural areas in the province and building homes on this area is detrimental to the environment, and will increase the effects of climate change, in which we are already experiencing to an advanced degree. Not to mention the loss of fertile farm land that will increase our our reliance on produce imports and increase scarcity and inflation, putting more pressure on the poorest Ontarians.
This plan does not have a proper plan for AFFORDABLE housing, no doubt just paving the way for more subdivisions that only a richer population can afford. We have enough housing in Southern Ontario, we need more housing that is actually possible to buy on one income.
We need homes for less than half a million for a 1 bedroom condo. We need rentals to be less than a mortgage payment.
People should not have to pay $1500 to live in a 1 bedroom basement. All this bill will do is add more money to investors pockets as they buy up housing to rent to others for a ridiculous price.
Better use of the governments time would be to make sure all Ontarian’s have a liveable wage. I have coworkers who are homeless and working a full time job that’s above minimum wage, and still can’t afford housing. I can’t afford to move out my parents house because of home prices.
Shame on this government.
