This ERO is ridiculous and without merit. A lot purchase was already offered by the provincial government to these people. Besides the offer, the online petition seeking to end cottaging in Rondeau withheld vital information such as a net gain in protected parkland as it didn’t fit the petition author’s anti-cottage narrative. Is possible that many who signed this petition would not have signed had they known the truth? Definitely I think.
Further, in this ERO, The best interests of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent are being ignored by Ontario Parks, all while the MNRF/MECP’s own studies have repeatedly proven our community benefits the park’s ecology.
The Previous offer to sell the lots to the city of chatham, meant that the lot sale prices were independently set by Infrastructure Ontario as being fair to the province. Also, only 0.56% of Rondeau will be affected by this transaction; 99.44% will remain entirely untouched.
