I am strongly opposed to hastily butchering the Greenbelt - for all the environmental, social and economic reasons well presented in many sources. I acknowledge there is a housing crisis which will increase in severity with the onslaught of climate change and the inevitable migration that results. Our immediate response should be "intensification" followed by hard-nosed, pragmatic planning on how to manage this change over the next several decades without depleting our natural capital. The response should NOT be to line the pockets of land speculators and developers who extend the suburban sprawl of unsustainable mic-mansions.
