Ford says that this will help the housing crisis yet:
The housing crisis is an affordability crisis, in Canada we have more than an 8% unoccupied rate – but these cannot be filled since no one can afford them
These houses could be big – more profitable for landowners, but not good for Ontarians
Materials for houses are already in short supply – more expensive
The government says it’s going to “swap in” land for the taken land, yet these surrounding areas are already protected
Additionally, we cannot just take parts of an ecosystem and expect to remain intact
The greenbelt is our source of drinking water and home to lots of biodiversity – including many already at risk
Paving over parts of it will make these systems at major risk of collapse
They also state that “this is what we wanted”
Yet the majority of people polled say they do not want the greenbelt touched
They also say they are only opening up 7400 acres, but who says there won’t be any more pressure from developers to keep going?
SAVE OUR GREENBELT, MAKE HOUSING WE HAVE ALREADY BUILT MORE AFFORDABLE
