As a resident of the Golden Horseshoe region, it worries me that Premier Ford will expand housing and urban sprawl in the greenbelt. This is blatant hypocrisy as the premier went back on his promise in 2018 to not touch the greenbelt. New urban sprawl into areas that ought to be conserved and farmland has significant effects on the future of those in the region.
The housing crisis should be addressed in areas that are already urbanized. This is a serious miscalculation of the issues we face.
Additionally, as a young person I fear a future characterized by rapid urbanization and degradation of our ecosystems. I alongside many other young people will not stand for this.
Listen to the people that live in the green belt, I am sure that a large majority of residents oppose this expansion.
Newly immigrated Canadians should be accommodated in areas that are already urbanized, destroying the greenbelt will not fix housing shortages.
Progressively, our environment becomes less of a priority to the Ford government and the premier himself.
I full heartedly oppose the proposal and its recklessness.
I will be writing to my counsellor and local politicians to oppose the proposal. The future of not only my generation but generations to come hangs in the balance.
This is not right.
