I don’t think this should happen. The Greenbelt Plan should be left as is. If we need more housing, there’s certainly other places that can be used other than protected green space. I know thinking of housing is thinking of current and future issues, but it ignores other major issues, like climate change. The Greenbelt Plan was also created without proper consultation to the Indigenous people whose land it is occupying. In this era of truth and reconciliation, we need to do better. And this plan should have had proper consultation but we can’t go back and change the past. What we can do is do better now that we know better. And we know that we should consult Indigenous people, and we know climate change is a real thing that is happening. We have witnessed it with our own eye. We need to quit pretending like our actions don’t have consequences.
