Do not allow houses to be built on protected land. Yes, Ontarians need housing but the houses built on this land wouldn't be affordable to the people that need housing anyways. We have shacks going for over $500,000. The average person can't afford to pay more than $250,000 for a house.
People in their 50's who rent are being forced out of their homes because landlords are selling or threatening to sell and putting rent up by over $1000 a month to keep from selling. This is against the law but the renters feel they have no other choice. Duplex apartments are going for $2,400 a month minimum and good luck trying to even get the vacancy as there are several people interested and people are having to offer more than asking or pay rent for a year in advance to win the rental.
These new builds will not help this.
