I believe it is an extremely shortsighted move to drop restrictions and develop on the Greenbelt. Agricultural land should be treated as an extremely valuable resource. We should not be shooting future generations in the foot by paving over land that could be an extremely valuable food supply in the future.
I do acknowledge however we are in a housing crisis and new housing needs to be built. But this is much better achieved by increasing the density in the suburban cities that already exist, not by creating more suburbia. There is a lot of poorly utilized space due to the number of communities centered around single-family homes in Southern Ontario. We need to start densifying these existing communities, instead of sprawling out development and repeating the same style of development that has clearly not worked well to address the problems that this province is currently facing.
