I do not believe these changes to the Ontario Heritage Act benefit, in any way, the people of Ontario. Municipalities and elected officials should not have the ability to "de-list" heritage properties or disregard heritage considerations without consulting their respective heritage committees. When it comes to matters that impact heritage, waterways, marshlands, air quality, whatever it may be, Municipalities should listen to and take direction from the experts in the field.

This change to the Act seems to be a way for developers to disregard heritage when designing or planning new developments. This should not be the case here in Ontario. Heritage buildings and properties add far greater benefits (aesthetics, tourism, historical understanding, sense of neighbourhood) to the community than simply having new structures.
