Sacrificing the Green Belt is short-sighted and ignores the impending climate crisis. The environmental services provided by these areas outweigh the value from new housing, especially since most of those proposals are subdivisions of single-home dwellings.
This plan is unconscionable. There is more than enough land available within major municipalities to accommodate current and future housing. It may simply require regulations to promote mixed-use buildings, multiplexes, etc.
Further, if some sections of the Green Belt are developed, there should be strings attached. Developers should be required to create zero-emission buildings without new gas infrastructure. Better building standards need to be implement to reduce emissions.
