Since 1992 the world community has recognised emissions of greenhouse gases and the subsequent accumulation in the atmosphere the leads to global warming an the most important issue facing humanity. Unfortunately governments have been slow to act on their commitments and there continues to be runaway increases of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which are locking us into a warmer future as it is.
The Ontario government has not demonstrated how repeal of the current regulatory regime will promote increased energy efficiency and thus competitiveness of the Ontario economy. Countries of Europe and Japan have a much higher GDP than Ontario despite higher fossil fuel costs.
I expect the current government to do what is fiscally responsible and maintain carbon pricing and continuously increase the cost of carbon over time. Not only will this result in a more efficient economy, and healthier Ontarians, it will reduce the burden on our health system.
