The greenbelt and surrounding areas are forever being eroded by single-family home developers reducing our environmental/climate resistance and adding to urban sprawl that is still inaccessible to many homeowners, global warming, and stunningly bad land use per square meter.
We need denser housing in existing spaces, not further erasure of more natural/untouched land being eroded and developed for little gain. We need protected green areas for wildlife and their habitat, flood protection, learning opportunities, and our health. Any development of the greenbelt should come with an environmental plan with minimal impact, an increased cost per square meter/tax to developers to be spent on nature preserves that not only maintain existing biomass, but expand and reclaim land developed.
