I strongly oppose this bill. This isn't the first time Doug Ford has tried to remove protections for the greenbelt, and this feels like the Ford government is using the urgency of the housing crisis to further his own agenda rather than taking the bold steps that are actually needed to address long term housing in our province. I have been a long time renter and this year became a first-time home buyer. I understand the urgency of making housing that's affordable and accessible, but I certainly don't believe that ripping up protected lands and degrading our environment is the only way. It's definitely not the best way. Instead, we should be speeding up completion and approvals of existing development projects (of which there are many), and rezoning to allow more than single family homes. This bill isn't helping the housing crisis - it's distracting from it.
